Potty Training

Brooklyn seems to take to things really fast, so back at Thanksgiving I decided to try and potty train her over the long weekend. It ended up frustrating me and made me realize that she just was not ready. She would go to the bathroom if she was sitting on the potty but she just did not comprehend telling me when she needed to go. So after 3 days I opted to put it off for a few more months. Then came the week before Christmas. We got home Monday night after work and she asked to wear panties. I went along with it to see how she would do. She did fantastic. She went in the potty all that night...really could it be this easy? So every night that week we got home after work and she would ask for her panties. She had about 2 or 3 accidents that week but pooped in the potty and was telling me when she needed to go. So Christmas weekend I went at it full force. We said goodbye to diapers and put her completely in underwear.

We have had much success with this process. I would say that she is about 95% potty trained. She stays dry at night (I put her in a pull up because I am not brave enough to make the leap, what can I say I like my sleep), she tells me when she needs to go and she even poops in the potty. I say 95% because she still has her few accidents, this is mainly when she is too busy playing and forgets. But at 21 months I cannot complain. I kind of feel bad because I hear of so many horror stories of people that fight with thier kids for months with lots of bribes and tears. Brooklyn is a bright little girl. It amazes me how fast she picks things up. Kellan and I really do have our hands full with this one!

Here is a picture of how we spent many days when we first started. Brooklyn just wanted to run around in her panties. Now she wears clothes with the panties!

Christmas 2011

This Christmas season was filled with lots of parties, time with family and friends and a puzzle! (Oh yeah and we threw potty training into the mix).

We joined the Langford's on a trip to see the Zoo Lights! It was a very chilly night but we bundled the kiddos up tight and they had a blast.

This year we got super spoiled. Kellan got an awesome bonus at work that he was able to get himself a new ipad 2 and my work gave me a new camera. I ended up with a Nikon D3100. It takes awesome pictures and with it I hope to have a more updated blog. This has been a very eventful year and I can't wait to see what 2012 brings. I am so grateful for all that I have and could not ask for anything more! I wish everyone a very happy new year!

Long Needed Update

So I as usual have been horrible at my upkeep of the blog. It seems to be a growing trend with everyone though so I don't feel as guilty. Here are a few things that have been going on in the Doom household over the last few months...

In September we moved. We were so sad to leave all of the wonderful friends that we had come to know in our little complex but are also excited to move on to bigger things. We are now living in the house that I grew up in which is lots of fun to be back in my home ward.

October we celebrated Halloween all month long. We were able to go to Cornbelly's with some of our really good friends. It is so much fun to see Brooklyn growing up and being able to do some of the "BIG kid things". She seems to be learning something new everyday. I also celebrated my 27th birthday. I can't believe that I am that old. Time really does fly the older you get. Anywho...
The day before my birthday our old ward had a Chili cookoff and pumpkin decorating contest. For those of you that know Kellan you also know that he is a very competitive person. So of course he made a chili and carved a pumpkin. And with true Doom fashion everything was thrown together at the last minute. But everything went together as it usually does. Kellan made a duck chili and I made a white bean chicken chili. Surprisingly enough everyone LOVED Kellan's chili because he won first place. His pumpkin also took first as it was a pumpkin sitting on a toilet with a pie underneath showing where pumpkin pie comes from.
Halloween we were able to take Brooklyn out to our friends house. Thanks Becca and Parish for having us over! We had chili and breadbowls for dinner before taking the kiddos out. I really need to get better at taking picture because I did not get any pictures of Brooklyn in her cute little Minnie Mouse outfit. She was so much fun this year. She was able to have such a good example of how things were supposed to be done by Brock. After the first couple of houses she knew that she had to knock, say treat and then she got candy. She was even polite enough to say thank you after.

November brought us Thanksgiving. This year we were able to spend the whole day at my Grandma Olney's house. This year has really put things into perspective with my parents divorce. We are now going to have to start a rotation for the holidays. It makes me really sad that I have to choose between seeing family. But such is life. I was not going to do the black friday thing because I think that it gets crazy and brings out the worst in some people, it also gets you to buy something that you did not really need since it was such a good deal. But as I was looking through the ads there was some really good deals on clothes at Old Navy and both Kellan and I needed some new clothes and they were offering a free camera for a limited number of people. I ended up going over to the store at about 9:30 for the opening at midnight. I was the 10th person in line and they were giving it out to the first 40. Sweet I made it in time! So I ended up getting tons of clothes and a free camera. Totally worth it.

Now it is December and I am so excited for Brooklyn's Christmas this year. She is starting to grasp the concept of things so we will see how she does with Christmas.

Brooklyn is the light of our lives. She amazes me every day at how smart she is. It seems like I teach her something once and she remembers it. She makes me appreciate every minute that I get to spend with her. She also makes me realize how important the Plan of Salvation is. I am so grateful to be sealed together as a forever family and to know that this happiness does not end. I obviously don't want it to end anytime soon, mostly because I still have so much to learn but I want to spend more time teaching Brooklyn what she needs to know. There have been circumstances in my family over the last couple of months that have really brought into perspective the importance of the Gospel in my life. My heart goes out to my Grandpa Grow who's health seems to be increasingly declining as well as to my Uncle Mark who has had a two year battle with brain cancer. He has been fighting a long and hard battle with the cancer but is getting really tired of fighting and seems to be preparing to return to our Father in Heaven. Both of these great men have made me have a better understanding of our eternal plans for all of us.
On that note I will work on getting better at updating the blog as well as having pictures to make it a little more interesting! I wish all of my family and friends a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

15 month check up

Brooklyn had her check up this last Monday. Here are her stats.
Height: 31 inches 70th percentile
Weight: 23.1 pounds 50th percentile
Head: 46.5 cm 60th percentile

The doctor was really impressed with her overall development. When he first walked in the room she ran from the table to me and he was surprised that she was running. She can also point to her eyes, nose and mouth. He said that that is a 2 year old development. I really love my baby and can't believe how fast she catches on to things. It seems like I show her something once and she can do it after that. Here is a few other things she is doing now:
*Running
*Talking-bird, plane, momma, dada, dog, toille, pat, rama (grandma), papa (grandpa), ball, more, shoes, fish, wash, mine, hi, bye bye, baby...I am sure there are a few more that I can't think of.
*She points to her stomach and says belly!
*She loves to wash her hands
*She loves to take my phone or the remote and runaway and say mine while laughing!
*Her favorite show used to be Mickey Mouse Clubhouse but just the last few days it is pat pat (which is Brooklyn talk for Little Einstiens)
*She is very daring and loves to try new things. She will even go down the big kid slide with no help or hesitation!

She has her 4 upper and lower front teeth and is working on all 4 molars at once. The lower right has finally broken through with the other three close behind I'm sure.

Brooklyn is the light of our lives and I am so grateful that the Lord entrusted her precious life with us! She teaches us something new every day, but most of all, patience!

12 month check up and a birthday party!

Super slacker award goes to this mom right here. Oh well better late than never right? We celebarted Brooklyn's birthday party a few days early so we could have it on a Saturday when more peolpe were available to share in her special day. We just had a get together with family to help celebrate. I decided that I was going to make the cupcakes for the party and her little destruction cake. I was going to do a fondant cake but was discouraged by multiple people so I just frosted it instead and piped on Happy birthday. For the cupcakes I was going to make them like they do in the fancy shops but for some reason my frosting would not hold and every time I tried to pipe it on it would just melt off. So I ended up just slapping it on and sticking it in the fridge to help it set up and that seemed to work. I was so stressed out with those things. Next time I will try a different frosting. Here are a few pics from the big day!

The day after her actual birthday was her 12 month check up appointment. Poor girl had to get 2 shots! But she does fairly well with them. How nice of the doctor to give her such a wonderful present right? She is developing really well and the doctor is really impressed with her.
Her stats are as follows:
Height-29 1/4 inches 75th%
Weight- 21.2 pounds 50th%
Head- 46cm 80th%
So overall she is an average baby. Which is just great! We are so happy with our stubborn little one year old. She brings us so much joy most days! Here are a few of the things she is doing...
-Walking, but still a little sea legged
-jabbering up a storm. She says mama and dada. She also attempts Touille and Crush it is more like ooee and shhh
-She knows to tell the dogs shh when they are barking and also no no no
-she has a little rocking chair that she can climb in and out of
-she can get off of the couch without falling, she knows how to turn on her belly and slide off
- she can climb up and down stairs which still baffles me as to where she learned it because she does not really deal with stairs and one day she just started to climb them
-she is off the bottle 100%
-she was off of the binkie until she got sick and then she saw it one day and really wanted it, so we will try again now that she is not sick anymore
-she has 6 teeth 2 on bottom and 4 on top
-she loves her monkey and takes him everywhere we go
-she loves blankets and when she first wakes up she wantsyou to pick her up with her blanket and monkey
-she loves to brush her hair and is finally starting to like to wear bows Yea!!!
-she loves bath time
We love our little baby B and can't belive that it has been a year already. It makes me so sad to think that we have already had a year pass by. Before we know it she is going to be getting married and having her own little munchkins. Here are a few other random pictures over the last few weeks.
